Chemistry Research Laboratories - Plant and Food Research

Palmerston North, New Zealand

Lab-works Architecture have utilised the existing building layout and designed an open laboratory space for ease of use which is a safer and aesthetically more pleasing place to work in with windows opening onto adjacent spaces to allow for vision into and between rooms. The laboratory has been separated into specific areas for each process, with each separate space dedicated to a specific work flow. All the large instruments have been combined into one room rather than scattered throughout the building so that the noise and heat they generate can be more easily contained.

Safety within the laboratory has been further enhanced by adding in new fire exits and providing safety stations with drench showers, eyewash outlets and safety kits which include fire extinguishers, bund kits and first aid supplies.

The write up space is next to the laboratory utilising existing office space.
