Teaching Laboratories - Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology

Nelson, New Zealand

This project involved designing and documenting the new Biology, Chemistry and Microbiology teaching laboratories for the Nursing, Health, Fitness and AquaCulture departments on the Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology campus. These were incorporated into an existing building which was previously fitted out as offices.

The spaces include a Biological teaching laboratory to seat 30 students, a Chemistry and Microbiology teaching laboratory to seat 20 students, a multipurpose teaching space with flexible desks (connected to the Chemistry laboratory for use as one large or two smaller spaces) and associated technician and support spaces.

The design incorporates audio-visual facilities for teaching purposes as well as storage for teaching equipment and student use. On this project Lab-works Architecture worked in collaboration with Irving Smith Jack Architects.
