Laboratories and Teaching Spaces - Riddet 12 Building - Massey University

Palmerston North, New Zealand

This project relocated a number of spaces within the Electronics and Information Engineering area at Massey University in Palmerston North.

Teaching spaces included megatronics laboratories; electronics workshops; welding and robot rooms. These as well as student learning and staff research spaces were combined into a new purpose-built facility as part of the Riddet complex.

The laboratories have been flexibly designed to meet the future needs and developments in technology. The significant features in this building are the inter-relationships between spaces which have been cleverly positioned with open voids and internal windows, allowing for observation of both
staff and students at work from both inside and outside the building.

These modern teaching environments are now benefitting from the introduction of high visibility, natural light and the opportunity for the outside to see into the working spaces.
