Gold Award for Lincoln University's Science South
Lincoln University’s new Science South Building won a Gold Award at the 2022 NZ Commercial Project Awards in the Construction Marketing Services Education category. Completed in 2021, this new facility offers a base for the university’s researchers to continue their critical work in helping Aotearoa transition towards a more productive, low-emissions economy.
In a joint-venture with Sheppard and Rout, Lab-works were the specialist laboratory architects and worked closely with Lincoln University’s Agricultural Sciences department to design and deliver fit-for-future research spaces.
The project’s success was a result of a clear project structure established early on, along with design phase and approval milestones. The start date was delayed by seven weeks due to the Covid-19 pandemic however, Leighs Construction swiftly developed effective systems and policies to manage the Alert Level restrictions on site.
The construction for this new agricultural science building commenced in June 2020 and progressed rapidly to completion in July 2021. Minister of Research, Science and Innovation Hon Dr Megan Woods cut the ceremonial ribbon to officially open the new building in July 2021.
We congratulate and acknowledge the commitment of all involved in this project.
