Te Ohu Rangahau Kai Wins Two NZIA Awards

The new Te Ohu Rangahau Kai facility, located at Massey University’s Manawatu Campus, won at the 2021 NZIA Western Architecture Awards. In collaboration with Warren & Mahoney Architects, Lab-works Architecture was presented with two awards, one in the Education category and the other being a Resene Colour Award.

Te Ohu Rangahau Kai is a joint facility that brings together three food research organisations, AgResearch, Massey University, and the Riddet Institute. Focusing on food research and development sciences, the facility links to the existing food pilot plant of the Riddet Institute, creating one of the largest agricultural food research centres in New Zealand.

This project has been a journey of collaboration between three client organisations; AgResearch, Massey University and the Riddet Institute. It was facilitated by two architects who managed the intricate complexity of a building that sits between the worlds of research and education. Sitting amid the leafy Massey campus and with extensive natural views, this innovative building will service the generation of research and development for many years to come.
