Tane te Wairoa
NIWA - Hamilton
Lab-works Architecture, in collaboration with Warren and Mahoney Architects, were responsible for the redevelopment of NIWA Hamilton's new building located on the Waikato University campus. The building, named Tane te Waiora, represents the key pillars of NIWA's science - freshwater, oceans, and atmosphere. This building is the first phase of the Masterplanning project that includes Hamilton, Wellington, and Christchurch locations.
As the specialist laboratory designer, Lab-works closely collaborated with the client and laboratory stakeholders to understand their current operations and facilities. This partnership facilitated the development of a design that fulfilled the scientific requirements while providing a contemporary and practical space for the staff and researchers.
The redevelopment project involved a complete overhaul of the existing building, including the demolition of the previous laboratory facilities, and the construction of a new state-of-the-art laboratory. The new laboratory is fully equipped to meet NIWA's scientific program needs and future requirements. The new facilities have provided a modern, functional, and flexible workspace for NIWA's staff and researchers.
